What is DM? (Degenerative Myelopathy)
Degenerative Myelopathy is a progressive disorder
characterized by the loss of coordination that takes place in the hind legs. The onset of symptoms usually takes place between
the ages of eight and twelve years old. At onset, the symptoms are usually subtle, such as a slightly unstead gait or wobble
as the dog walks. As the disorder continues, the dog will lose more spinal function eventually becoming unable to bear weight
or maintain control over it's bladder. Fortunately, there does not seem to be any pain associated with these symptoms.
It is incredibly important to us that no dog
born at our facility contracts DM. All of our breeding stock is DNA tested for DM.
